“Survival ensures competition.

Ideals seek to become truth.

Purpose becomes a weapon.

Its fuel… conviction.”

Part 1

Three Space- alternate universe.

This universe of infinite possibilities is where an entirely different kind of life began in the form of elements.

Elements possess humanoid shape, but have many distinct differences. They possess no mouths, no noses and no ears. Rather, their skin absorbs smells, and they broadcast thoughts to each other and receive the sounds of their environment in the same telepathic manner. “Private parts” are unknown to them just as reproduction is, meaning there can only be one of each type of element. Most importantly, each element is gifted with a special power, which ranges from wielding fire, flight, to commanding the atmosphere itself.

With their many powers, these elements exist in relative peace, interacting with each other in their world, Axiom. Peace is not permanent for the elements, however, and after a bitter feud, most of them have been obliterated. Now they face the issue of reconstruction.

Part 2 *flashback*

May 2, 1998 (17 years before the end of the Halogen feud) ---Alloy Mountains

The Alloy Mountains formed a mountain range which spanned a great length of Axiom. It was in this range that two male elements in black cloaks explored to find one of their own. Darkness penetrated every corner of the rocky interior. Their voices broke the silence. It was the smaller of the two elements who spoke first.

[???]: “She should be here. This was our arranged place.”

[?????]: “Hmph! Why here of all places? We have the fortress to meet at.”

[???]: “She insisted that we meet in utmost secrecy.”

[?????]: “It still makes no sense to me. I, however, won’t fight her judgment.”

[???]: “It would be best to not.”

[?????]: “Hmph!”

[???]: “Did you see that?”

[?????]: “What?”

[???]: “A glint. Someone else is in here.”

[?????]: “One of the Nobles’ supporters?”

[???]: “Possibly. Get your sword ready.”

The sound of a female element shrieking was heard in the distance. A flash of white light momentarily burst through the otherwise dark walls of the cave.

[???]: “NO!!”

[?????]: “That was… that was her!”

[???]: “Where are our enemies?? WHERE!??”

[?????]: “I see him! That crested helmet… It’s Silver!”

[???]: “Stop running and face us you coward!!”

Silver ran through the cave until the two elements lost sight of him completely. The smaller one yelled through tears that flowed down his eyes.

[???]: “You… You will regret… ever obliterating the leader of… of the Radioactives!”

*end of flashback*

Part 3

December 23, 2015 (3 months after the end of the Halogen feud) ---Titanium Mesa

Sword fights were a thing of beauty in the world of Axiom. What would normally be seen as deadly due to the intense strikes of metal, looked much more graceful thanks to the skills of the elements. Such was the case at Titanium Mesa where two veteran elements were dueling. One of them was Copernicium, a tall gray element with a thin rapier as his weapon of choice. He spoke with pride.

[Copernicium]: “Hmph! You fight as good as always. But you are still not showing me your full strength!”

His opponent turned to reply. It was none other than Polonium, who was looking as alive as ever.

[Polonium]: “That’s because you’re boring me. Do I even have to try?”

[Copernicium]: “Such arrogance!”

She shrugged her shoulders and blocked another one of his attacks.

[Polonium]: “I tell it like it is.”

[Copernicium]: “Hmph! I will leave it at that for now. There is nothing more for me to do at the moment except ask that you reconsider my offer.”

The tall element put his rapier back in its holster.

[Polonium]: “Are you serious? Again?”

[Copernicium]: “Why do you always refuse? My family could use a member like you.”

Polonium thought back to her moments at the Sea Of Fire. She had been forced to battle her own brother who had been driven mad by the corruptive power of an electron. The rocky bridge had collapsed beneath their feet dropping both elements to the fire pit. Polonium had managed to survive by digging both of her swords into the wall of the rocky cliff. Her brother, Tellurium, had not been as fortunate. When she returned home, she found nothing but rubble of the former Lattice Palace, the crystalline base of the Halogens and Chalcogens. It was then when Polonium knew she was alone.

[Polonium]: “No thanks. I told you I’ve had enough family.”

[Copernicium]: “My family is different. I can promise you won’t regret joining us.”

[Polonium]: “I already regret dueling you. We’ve been through this dance before. Every time we fight, you quit midway and bother me with the same old request. The way I see it, there’s nothing to gain from you or your family.”

[Copernicium]: “Oh if only you knew, Polonium.”

[Polonium]: “Here we go again.”

[Copernicium]: “No. I’ll save my lecture for another time. I can tell you aren’t ready to hear it.”

[Polonium]: “Whatever.”

[Copernicium]: “Hmph. I will be off then. Until we meet next, Polonium.”

[Polonium]: “Later.”

Copernicium walked away. Polonium turned to walk in the opposite direction. Her opponent was simply too uninteresting to follow. Copernicium could battle of course, but he chose to talk most of the time. Boring. Polonium thought of her other duel at the Sea Of Fire with her rival, Silver. She was looking forward to finishing that rematch.

[Polonium]: “Hope you’re ready when I find you. Then I’ll settle things for good.”

Determined as ever, the Chalcogen set out as Axiom’s stars dimmed, signaling the coming of dusk.

And so it begins! Here's to another good volume of EOP!:-)
